First Saturdays: Wood Carving by Inuk Artist Barry Best
Join us on Saturday, July 4 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as we kick off summer with our First Saturdays program – free with general Village admission.
Meet eco-Inuk artist Barry Best and explore his exhibition Spirit Winds, currently on display at the Village. Hear about his artistic roots, watch a live spoon carving demonstration, and learn carving techniques while sketching your own design to take home.
Barry Best is a Toronto based Indigenous artist who has crafted elegant and engaging pieces for over a decade. Between his carvings, photography and videography, Barry has tied his relationship as an Indigenous artist and forester together through eco based projects to help shed light on the importance of sustainability in our environment. His battle with mental health is deep within his art and manifests itself in bright beautiful colours and engaging structures, inviting the public to be a part of his journey of healing.
See The Past Through Their Eyes
Join us at The Village on the first Saturday of each month to connect with equity-deserving artists who invite us to see history from their perspective. Through their art, they challenge us to consider the past in new ways, offering creative and meaningful interpretations of our shared heritage.
