Are you a high school student who bikes to school and is looking for ways to have a positive impact in your community?

Come out for a bike ride and pizza at our Active School Travel Workshop taking place on Saturday, May 30, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the McLean Community Centre (95 Magill Drive). Discover ways to help improve bikeability and climate change resilience in your community to earn five community service hours.

What you will learn:
– Existing and proposed bike routes in Ajax that will help you get to school, plazas, community centres and other parts of Ajax.
– Wetlands and biodiverse ecosystems in Ajax and climate change resilience.
– Meaningful storytelling techniques to build momentum and support in your community.
– Safe riding (inspection, road rules).
– Efforts by the Town of Ajax to improve bikeability.

What is included (free):
– Guided bike ride
– Opportunity to try using an e-scooter or e-bike (ages 16+ only)
– Lunch
– Accessories: helmets, bike bells and bike lights

Who is this event for:
– Youth ages 14-17 who reside in Ajax and attend school in Ajax.
– High school teachers or school staff who work at a high school in Ajax.
– Participants ages 14-15 must bring a bicycle in working condition to participate.
– Participants ages 16+ must bring a bicycle in working condition OR be willing to and have parental permission to ride a Lime e-scooter or e-bike in order to participate.
